Hey lovely ladies! Your maternity session is a time to cherish. Here are 8 clothing tips to help create stellar portraits.
Maternity sessions are often overlooked, and sometimes downright dreaded. But we’re here to tell you that your maternity session doesn’t have to be this way, no matter how you feel about yourself right this moment. It’s most likely the last portrait session before adding a new bundle to your family, and it’s a time to celebrate! So read on, and get excited about your maternity portraits.
Show Your Bump.
Remember, the main purpose of this session is to show off your baby bump, so be sure to wear more clingy clothing to your session. It doesn’t necessarily have to be tight, but you want it to be more form fitting so you can see the bump. Just be sure that it’s still comfortable for you.
Cover the Arms.
We suggest wearing shirts or dresses with some kind of sleeve on them – they are more flattering for portraits. Things like a dress with 3/4 length sleeves, or a form fitting tank top with a sweater/cardigan over it are always a good idea.
Take it to the Max.
Maxi dresses and tunics with cinched waists are perfect for any season and are a client favorite when it comes to maternity sessions. Ruching at the bust and side seams gives a flattering look as well.
Layer it On.
Dress in layers – this will help to give you several clothing ‘looks’ without having to fully change your outfit every time. Textures like lace or brocade also give a flattering look.
Belts or floral sashes can really help accentuate your bump. We suggest trying to add one to your wardrobe for your session. If the neckline of your outfit is lower cut, a statement piece necklace will look amazing. Accessories like floral crowns or rhinestone clips give a great finished look to your already beautiful hair.
Glam it Up.
In the maternity session, YOU are the star! Have your hair and make-up done, make plans for a nice evening out, and get your glam on! If you have a formal event or special occasion gown, this is the perfect time to wear it again, or shop for something new.
Keep it Solid.
Solid colors work best for outfits as it brings focus to you and baby. If you have a favorite floral top or dress, try putting a solid cardigan over it.
Comfort is Key.
Be comfortable! our comfort is the most important thing. If you’re uncomfortable, it will show on camera. Find an outfit that feels good and that you know you look good in. This will help you to relax for the best portraits. And if you’re not feeling one of your outfits, choose from our large client closet.
